“Get Your Life On Track!:  How one small change can turn everything around.” That’s what the headline said on the cover of a recent issue of O Magazine.

You just KNOW I had to pick that magazine up. If you know me, and I hope you all are getting to know me by this point, I am intrigued by how other experts view “change”.

The expert in this case was Martha Beck. In the article, she said that there’s really only one thing that can derail our lives, keep us off course, and leave us living an unmotivated, uncomfortable, unhappy and blah existence. It’s our lenses.

Think of Superman and those thick rims he puts on when he wants to turn into Clark Kent and cover his true identity and hide his superpowers. The comic book hero dons his lenses intentionally.

But many of us use our lenses–our excuses–without even knowing it.  And… it’s those very same excuses that keep us stranded in the slow lane to nowhere.

Just like Superman, though, if we can learn to remove our lenses, we can then reveal our own superpowers–our loves, interests, and abilities that get us motivated, accelerating, and aimed for goals and success.

In the O Magazine article, Martha mentioned one of her favorite quotes: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.  Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure … Your playing small doesn’t serve the world.” (A Marianne Williamson quote.)

I particularly love that last line.  Does playing small ever make sense?  How will playing small ever help you reach the full, large life you are meant to live? It’s no coincidence that we all talk about wanting to “live large.” The good life.

So it’s time to put our money where our mouth is. We have to take on life in a big way–like Superman, not Clark Kent–if we’re ever to have that long, happy, dream-filled life free from hardships and trepidation. After all, “living large” means, put simply, living a happy existence.  And that is all any of us can ask for … happiness.

Just this week I finally watched “Children of Men” with my husband. I know, I know, I’m a little late to see one of the greatest movies of the year, but I wanted to give my full attention to the movie and before now it wouldn’t have had my focus. (You’ll know this if you’ve been following my blog. You’ll know my twin girls just turned one and well, they do happen to be where most of my focus lies most of the time.)

It was well worth the wait! What a great story, and I promise, I’ll give you a “spoiler warning” if I start talking about something that will spoil the movie for you.

The plot of the story is no secret. The movie is set in 2027, but by the looks of things on the screen, you would think it was a movie based in the Depression era. Things were run down, dismal, gray, and depressing. But here we are in the year 2027 and the world has become infertile. The youngest child in the world is 18 years old.

One character turns up miraculously pregnant after 18 full years of infertility. She is kept a secret for 8 months, goes into early labor, and so…. Is the world changed now? >> More..

1. LACK OF A WELL-DEFINED PURPOSE IN LIFE. There is no hope of success when you don’t have a central purpose, or definite goal at which to aim. Ninety-eight percent of people are followers who have no definite idea of their ultimate goal. What to do: As an absolute first step in your personal or professional success, know your passion. What is your higher purpose?

2. LACK OF AMBITION TO AIM ABOVE MEDIOCRITY. If you don’t like where you are, you must find a way to change that. What to do: Becoming a fulfilled Home Executive or accomplished Business Leader will occur only when you consistently strive for excellence.

3. NEGATIVE ENVIRONMENT As the saying goes, “you are who you know,” so it is of the utmost importance to have only those people in your life who support you and what you believe/desire yourself to be.  >> More..

Most of us are familiar with the popular Nike slogan “JUST DO IT” but we probably don’t stop to think about the importance of the message. If you are like me, you probably see the Nike swoosh everyday. It’s everywhere! Most of us own a piece of clothing or Nike accessory that is associated with this phrase. “JUST DO IT” has become a popular phrase in our society. However, most of you might still find yourself waiting for the perfect time to “JUST DO IT.”

You can’t start your diet today, because of a party tomorrow. You can’t start a hobby, until you’re retired. You can’t quit your job, until you find a new one. You can’t work on your marriage until your kids are grown up. Sound familiar? >> More..
